The Houston Police Department Uniform Patch

We are proud to present to you the uniform patch of the Houston Police Department. The patch was designed in 1964 when the United States was engaged in its quest to reach the moon. During that time, worldwide attention was focused on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and its Mission Control located in Houston. As is reflected on the patch, Houston became known as "Space City, U.S.A."

Today, the Houston Police Department is responsible for maintaining peace and order in an area of about 600 square miles. Approximately 4500 police officers protect a population of almost 1.8 million.

We hope this patch will symbolize to you the dedication of thousands of Houston Police Officers who are committed to improving the quality of life for all Houstonians.

Harold L. Hurtt

Chief of Police
